Home Groups
HOME Groups (or small groups) are an integral part of life at All Saints because they give members a chance to learn together from the Bible, grow more like Jesus, develop faith and make friends.
Groups meet fortnightly on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays during the day and evening. Some meet in the Church Centre, others at the leader’s home, and some move between the homes of group members.
Many groups also arrange social events – curries, barbecues, bonfire and Christmas parties – on the ‘off’ weeks and some also meet up for occasional activities during the summer months when home groups don’t formally meet.
Each term we study a different theme, generally following the sermons in Church.
What are home groups for?
A home group is a place where we encorage one another to grow as disciples, and which nurtures us in:
-
our relationship with God
-
our relationship with others
-
our ministry in the church, at work, and in the community
-
our sharing of the gospel with friends
As we read and study the Bible together, home groups help us to express our faith in practical and realistic ways. Home groups focus on applying a good understanding of scripture to provide the principles for our decisions, attitudes and behaviour.
Don’t worry if:
-
you feel that you know very little about the Bible - we are all there to learn.
-
you find the idea of speaking in a group intimidating. You do not have to share anything if you don’t want to - we respect confidentiality
-
you don’t know anybody very well – you soon will!
-
you find praying aloud difficult (lots of people do) – you don’t have to if you don’t want to.
How do I choose a group?
There are many reasons for choosing a specific group – not least the convenience of the day, time and place. All groups have a different feel and style, so if a group doesn’t feel right for you, try another one – no one will be offended.
We’d love you to join one of our home groups, to help you choose which one please contact our vicar John Kirkland, who will be very happy to give you more details, drop him an email by clicking here, or call him on 01244 322056 .
